Where can I present my paper?
Would you like some expert feedback on your research project before you submit it? Are you brave enough to stand up and present your work to a discerning audience? Are you looking for another line on your CV before the RITA/ARCP? Do you enjoy meeting ENT trainees from other regions?
There are plenty free meetings and conferences where you can do all of this. There are prizes to be won for the best papers, and abstracts are often published. Here’s a summary of the most popular meetings:
BACO - British Academic Conference in Otolaryngology
The British Academic Conference in Otolaryngology is the most attended event in the British ENT calender, and takes place every three years. The 2009 BACO was held in Liverpool, with short paper sessions (and prizes) for trainees in the areas of Laryngology, Rhinology, Otology, Head and neck, Audiology and CAPAG.
The 2012 event will be held in Glasgow. It’s never too early to start preparing!
RSM - The Royal Society of Medicine
The Royal Society of Medicine Sections of Otology and Laryngology and Rhinology hold regular meetings at Wimpole Street in London. These tend to be sociable events with excellent outside speakers, so it’s worth coming along even if you’re not presenting. Each section has a yearly short papers section. Shortlisted trainees have a three-course lunch and glass of wine with the President of their section before presenting.

ORS - The Otorhinolaryngological Research Society
The Otorhinolaryngological Research Society was formed in 1979 to promote research in ENT. They hold meetings twice yearly, in Spring and Autumn. These meetings provide a valuable opportunity for immediate feedback and critique of your work from an expert audience. The meetings are an excellent way to keep up to date with ongoing research and to meet fellow trainees and academics, so attendance is recommended even if you are not presenting a paper.
