RSM Temporal Bone Competition

Sponsored by

Date: 8th November
Venue: Addenbrooke’s Temporal Bone Dissection Laboratory, Cambridge

The third RSM temporal bone competition will be held in November of this year and we hope to replicate the success of the last two years’ competitions. The competition offers trainees an excellent opportunity to dissect a temporal bone under quasi-exam conditions. Competitors are given tasks to perform and observed by leading otologists who will decide which trainee performs to the highest standards in terms of drilling technique, question answering and progress made through the defined tasks demanded. The competition is free of charge, and thus offers an excellent opportunity to perform a cadaveric temporal bone dissection. The surgeon who is judged to have been successful will be invited to the Forth Advanced Temporal Bone Dissection Course held in Florida, 2011. S/He will also be recognised as an outstanding otology trainee, with the presentation of his or her prize at the Royal Society of Medicine December meeting. The competition is open to all trainees who are members of the Royal Society of Medicine, and there are places for 10 participants. Priority will be given to trainees sitting the FRCS clinical exam in November 2010. Thereafter, places will be allocated by a lottery. In order to register an interest in the competition, please contact:
Tom Martin (AOT RSM rep) tpcmartin@blueyonder.co.uk

Please provide:
1. Your name, year of training and training region.
2. Your RSM membership number.

If you are due to sit the clinical viva in November in 2010, please include this information in your email. The draw for participation will be made on 1 September in order to allow participants to apply for study leave, so please get in touch before then!
